Do Eclipses Damage our Eyes?

Did a little reading on solar eclipse photography. During totality, the solar filter has to be removed to see the corona. The guy also said it can be viewed with the eye. Once the moon exits totality, lens and eye protection is needed again.

You could probably still use puddles of water to refract the most of it. I've had to use that trick before for healing with the sun after sunrise times when I had pneumonia one bad winter when I was getting into sungazing.
